3M awards future generation

Youngsters recognised as the future generation of engineers and rewarded by 3M.
Around 190 pupils from 16 primary and secondary schools entered the 3M Young Innovators Challenge. The idea behind the project is to inspire the next generation into a career in engineering.
All finalists competed for top prizes of £750 worth of equipment for their school and £50 of Supercheques for individuals. 3M has also paid to enter all participants into the British Science Association’s CREST Award scheme. This gives a nationally recognised accreditation for their work towards the competition.
Speaking at the prize giving event, Dr Will Whittow from the Wolfson School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering at Loughborough University said that science and engineering are relevant to everything we use and do. Because of that, the next generation will be at the forefront of engineering in the future.
