3M Launches Schools Competition For 2019

The annual school’s competition, The Young Innovators Challenge, has been launched at 3M’s office at Charnwood Campus in Loughborough.
The competition, run in the Loughborough area from 2013 and Bracknell since 2017, was attended by more than 40 teachers. There was also other school representatives and education advisers.
Both challenges have an engineering theme. They also support STEM learning by encouraging the participants to explore structures, forces, gravity and material properties. The Bracknell launch event at 3M Centre welcome teachers from schools across the Bracknell and Wokingham districts.
John Klee, Corporate Communications manager at 3M, said: “It is tremendously important that we encourage and inspire the younger generation to pursue STEM subjects. The Young Innovators Challenge is a great way for students to develop practical skills.”
Some 640 young people reached the judging stages of the 2018 Young Innovators Challenges. As well as the chance to compete for the top prizes of £750 worth of equipment for their school, all participants enter into the British Science Association’s CREST Award scheme. This earns them a nationally recognised accreditation, funded by 3M, for their work towards the competition.
