Henkel challenges the future of packaging

Adhesives company Henkel is looking at strategies for more environmentally friendly packaging as the plastic waste crisis reaches new heights.

More than 8m tonnes of plastic end up in oceans every year. Therefore, building a system that moves away from our ‘take, make, waste’ economy is crucial.

Henkel is also already playing its part in the future of plastic alternatives and has already re-designed much of its packaging to tackle the severe wastage.

In a recent article in the Guardian, Philippe Blank, head of circular economy and packaging sustainability at Henkel Beauty Care, says: “We take responsibility for what we are putting on the market in terms of packaging design.

“We need to design our products in the right way. They need to be recycleable with existing waste management infrastructure.”
