Henkel rescues plastic waste

Experts at Henkel have teamed up with Plastic Bank to reduce the amount of plastic waste entering the world’s oceans.

Henkel’s Laundry & Home Care’s packaging development department teamed up with Plastic Bank more than a year ago. The idea aims to collect plastic waste in exchange for cash.

Now for the first time, Henkel included this Social Plastic in its packaging and has successfully integrated the recycled plastic in 25,000 bottles for laundry and cleaning products.

“We are very happy with the initial pilot projects of integrating Social Plastic in our packaging. The packaging fulfilled all quality criteria and thus, the products successfully entered the market,” says Vineet Varman, Packaging Manager for Laundry Care. “We want to include even more Social Plastic in our product packaging in the future.”

By 2025, Henkel aims to use 35 percent recycled plastic for its consumer goods products in Europe.
