Nemo reviews technology history – byte by byte

Technology has come a long way in recent years, but it has also dramatically shaped our working lives. Marketing dealer group, Nemo, with the help of print services company, Brother, has gone back through time – to some of the technology that “was”.

Today, we take the internet for granted and more than 51% of the global population now regularly use the internet. Back in 1995, that figure was just 0.4%, says Nemo. The rise of email has speeded up many processes in the office environment – gone are the days of slow fax machines and endless Post Office queues.

A new style of working has also been born out of increased connectivity. The office no longer needs to be a building, plenty of people now work from home, from a coffee shop or on an island beach far away. Technology has allowed working norms to change – plus, according to Nemo, it also makes the world much more environmentally friendly.

“Paper use actually doubled between 1980 and 1995 because of the rise of affordable laser printing” says Nemo. “During the 2000s, the rise of secure digital storage saw paper use fall as files were easier to find. Although paper still features, digitisation means that scanning technology has become key for many businesses.”
